The dramatic arrest took place on William Nicol Drive, near Bryanston Drive when the suspect allegedly robbed a motorist while he was stuck in traffic.

According to Captain Kym Cloete, spokesperson for the Sandton police, the suspect approached the motorist, showed him his firearm and demanded his cellphone and wallet.

“The suspect then made off with the valuables not realising that an officer who was also stuck in traffic saw the entire incident,” she said.

The officer pursued the suspect and caught him, still in possession of the stolen goods.

The man was taken to the Randburg Police Station and charged with armed robbery. He has since appeared in the Randburg Magistrates’ court.
