Bryanston resident shines at chess championships

BRYANSTON - Resident Ricky Marketos did his community proud following his impressive win at the 2015 South Africa Junior Chess Championships.

Marketos competed at the tournament and won all seven of the games he competed in, being the only U12 player to manage this impressive feat.

The 11-year-old represented the Johannesburg Metro at the championships, which took place for the first time in Kimberley.

The championships took place from 3 to 10 January and consisted of individual, regional and team championships. The tournament also saw Johannesburg finish in the top five position, having placed third overall.
