Canoeing their pants off
SANDTON - A plethora of talented canoeists took part in the 50 Mile Lettie Pants race on the Dusi River.
This formed part of their training for the Dusi Canoe Marathon in February next year.
Sandton residents Kevin Byres and Ant Brown finished the race in under five hours.
Spokesperson for the Gauteng Canoe Union Jennie Dallas said, “The race was tougher than usual with low rainfall during the past year, and paddlers were forced to carry boats out of the river and run, or walk up, steep hills and down slippery slopes as parts of the river were not suitably negotiable due to low water levels.
“This made for an excellent training and preparation weekend for the endurance challenge of the Dusi river race.”
Brown was the first finisher from the Emmarentia dam canoe club which includes a large contingent who will be participating at the Dusi.
