Group of suspects steal a cellphone

ILLOVO - A gang of suspects ambushed a 25-year-old Bryanston resident outside the Wanderers Cricket Stadium in Illovo.

Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Bramley police, said there were about 10 suspects involved in the robbery of a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini cellphone. He said it was 8pm when the incident occurred. The man came from a cricket match at the stadium and he was headed towards his car which was parked at Melrose Arch.

“He was suddenly surrounded by about 10 men who grabbed him and took his cellphone valued at R5 000,” explained Maphakela. He said all the suspects were aged between 20 and 25, however, the victim could not give a description of any of the suspects. “He did not see any firearms or weapons in the suspects’ possession.”

No arrests have been made.
