Helping out our furry friends
SANDTON - Sony Movies SA, together with the NSPCA and Eukanuba, prepared for the release of Annie by launching the Lend a Paw initiative on 5 December at Ster Kinekor Sandton City.

Spokesperson for Sony Movies SA Claire Jackson-Bernardo said the initiative will give movie-goers all over South Africa the opportunity to give back by dropping donations of food and toys for the furry friends in need. The initiative also seeks to create awareness surrounding abandoned or stray animals who are in desperate need of assistance during the Christmas period.
Jackson-Bernardo added, “There are 89 individual SPCAs throughout South Africa who rescue and take in and care for homeless, abandoned and neglected animals every day and Eukanuba produces super-premium pet food that enhances the well-being of cats and dogs, making them awesome partners for this great cause.”
The event saw prominent celebrities such as actress Helen Desbois and Morning Live presenter Leanne Manas. An animal lover Desbois said the Lend a Paw initiative was an incredible opportunity to create awareness among the public about the animals who need help.
Actor and donor Brand Auret said, “The most important thing for me is that I am an animal lover. I have four dogs and a cat, and I want to get behind an organisation where you can see a difference being made, and I think they do a really good job.”
He added that animals can’t talk for themselves, so initiatives such as Lend a Paw and organisations such as the SPCA can act as a mouth piece for abandoned or stray pets.
