Church bells ring for Mandela

HURLINGHAM - The Rosebank Union Church in Hurlingham, Sandton rang its church bell at 10am on 5 December to honour the legacy of global icon Nelson Mandela.

One year after South Africa’s first democratically elected president’s death, South Africans continue to honour Mandela’s life. He was laid to rest last year in December in his hometown in Qunu.

The funeral was attended by Prince Albert of Monaco, Prince Charles, Kenneth Kaunda, former prime ministers, deputy heads of state and government, as well as heads of international organisations.

Mandela left behind a democratic South Africa with a constitution that endorses the ethos of human rights for all.
