UPDATE: Sandton police constable busted for corruption
SANDTON - A Sandton police constable is on trial for corruption.

The South African Police Service released a statement that the police constable, Thabiso Kubyane, who was based at the Local Criminal Records Centre in Sandton, and another civilian employee, Petros Alberto Dannyscamp from the Linden police, will appear in the Wynberg Magistrates’ Court on 2 December for defeating the ends of justice.
The 32-year-old constable, who had been working as a crime scene expert in the Johannesburg area, also faces an additional charge of possession of unlicensed firearms and ammunition which he allegedly took from the Linden police.
Kubyane attended crime scenes since January this year, but allegedly failed to register the results into the exhibit register and is said to have failed to process the necessary reports as per police protocol. When it was time for those exhibits to be used as evidence in court he was allegedly unable to present them.
A team of investigators from the National Investigation Unit then searched the constable’s room in the police barracks. The missing exhibits and crime scene reports, which were not processed and never entered into any of the relevant registers, were allegedly found.
The team also found two firearms in the constable’s room. It was later discovered that they were supposed to have been in storage as exhibits in the Linden police storeroom. There was no record as to how the pistol and the revolver left the storage area. And there were no entries made in the official registers by Dannyscamp, the storeroom clerk. After his arrest, Kubyane could not give an explanation as to why he was in possession of the firearms.
The investigation team also found several bullets allegedly in Kubyane’s possession.
Kubyane is currently out on R10 0000 bail and Dannyscamp is out on a warning.
This is a developing story and more information will be released as it becomes available.
