High powered fun

BRYANSTON - The second instalment of “Super kids and supercars” took place at Nicolway shopping centre on 23 November and gave young chemo patients and kidney disease sufferers a little hope, and a thrilling ride.

With the support from the Sunflower Fund and the Kidney Beanz Trust, the event brought together 14 children suffering from either leukemia, aplastic anaemia or a life-threatening kidney disease for an exciting opportunity to experience the thrill of riding in a high-powered super car. All the patients were either going through chemotherapy, waiting for a stem cell transplant or were in remission.

Event organiser and exotic car trader Bradley Ainge said he was very happy with the turn out on the day and the growth in support that has been received for the initiative.

With a wide variety of exotic cars, the children were given an incredible escape from the troubles of treatment with a luxurious ride through Bryanston. Trust manager at the Kidney Beanz Trust Megan Frye said, “This event is amazing. Bradley [Ainge] has always been a great supporter of Kidney Beanz and for these people to give their time on a Sunday is phenomenal. They don’t have to do this, and yet they choose to take the time to help out and we really appreciate it.”

The enthusiastic children and happy parents came out as the rain came down on the Sunday morning, watching all the high-powered cars driving through the Nicolway parking and giving the children the hope to carry on. Mother Rita Cool said the event was great as it helped the children get past their troubling situation.

Shelby Zimmerman of the Sunflower Fund said, “I hope that, after this, the children know that people care. I hope it helped them have a little fun. The event helps take them out of the monotony of the everyday existence of pain, and gives them a different perspective.”
