Preferential treatment for Meyiwa’s murder

This, according to National Police Commissioner, Riah Phiyega who briefed the media at the police’s Gauteng head office in Parktown. She discussed how the police planned to tackle the investigation of the murder case.

She announced that a multi-disciplinary task team had been established to investigate the murder of Meyiwa.

“The team will be led by the Gauteng deputy provincial commissioner for detective services, Major General Tebello Mosikili,” said Phiyega.

“Investigators that are forming part of this team are a combination of detectives from the National Investigation and Provincial investigation teams, National and Provincial Crime Intelligence, Visible Policing and the War Room.”

Phiyega dismissed questions and comments from the media that the murder case was receiving preferential treatment. She said, “Whether you are a child in Diepsloot or Reiger, we will offer a reward.”

However, Phiyega said the police had to showcase the ability of the South African police force in dealing with such a high profile crime case.

“We want to express our condolences to the family, friends and the soccer fraternity at the sudden and untimely death of Senzo Meyiwa,” said Phiyega.

She added that investigators were working vigorously to collect evidence. “The police forensic experts are in the process of interviewing witnesses to assist in the facial compilation of the suspects,” she added. “As soon as that is available it will be released to the media.”

A reward of up to R250 000 is on offer that will lead to the arrests of the suspects for the murder of Meyiwa.
