Woodmead businesswoman honoured at council awards

WOODMEAD - Recently honoured as one of the Business Women of the Year 2014 winners, Abigail Mahlangu is leaving a fiery trail in her wake.

The founder and managing director of Tushiyah Dimensions based in Woodmead, received the honour from the South African Council for Business Women in September.

Mahlangu explained the journey she took to be named as one of the council’s winners for 2014.

“I decided to enter the competition after the former president of the council mentioned the work done by the council and some of their projects, which interested me,” she said.

Mahlangu then decided to enter and was named the regional winner for the Western Cape and Gauteng 2014 before winning nationally in the professional category.

She explained that Tushiyah was founded in 2009 and is focused on developing and implementing strategies for small and medium-sized enterprises.

“Corporates contact us and ask for our assistance in developing strategies for their selected SMEs that they are involved with,” she said.

Mahlangu explained that her passion for working with such businesses came from her experience as a member of a syndicate group tasked with completing a strategy assignment, which ultimately led to the formation of a company.

“Unfortunately that company did not work out, for various reasons, but the idea of starting my own business stuck with me and I decided to do it,” she explained.

Mahlangu added that she was proud of the current stage Tushiyah was at, saying that it had been quite a journey since 2009. She expressed the hope that the company would expand and have more satellite offices across the country.

Tushiyah was originally founded by Mahlangu, but another partner joined six months later, Marisa Truter.

“Having her as my partner has been a blessing because we are each other’s sounding boards and it is important in any business to have that,” she said.
