Feeding the earth

JOBURG - People all over the globe will celebrate World Food Day on 16 October, with this year's theme being Family farming: feeding the world, caring for the earth.

One third of all South Africa’s food products go to waste, even though there are millions of people who are starving and do not have the security of knowing when or where they will receive their next meal.

FoodBank SA gives South Africans the chance to contribute their time and efforts towards World Food Day and help feed the hungry. The organisation encourages South Africans to volunteer their time and participate in various activities to ensure food security on the day.

FoodBank SA also urges the community to start their own veggie garden at home. Homegrown vegetables are a great source of nutrients and will be free from pesticides, insecticides and growth hormones.
