Naughty children locked in shed

BUCCLEUCH - Resident Anesh Meghraj claimed that in early September he heard the frantic screams and crying of children who had been allegedly locked in the shed in the backyard of a daycare centre next door to his house.

Meghraj said, “I came home early one day and heard children banging and crying in a shed next door. I spoke to two ladies working at the daycare centre who told me that the children were put in the shed because they were being naughty.”

Upon investigating the situation further with his domestic worker who had allegedly heard the crying children during the day on a regular basis, Meghraj said the workers of Nahni Daycare Centre, which takes care of children between the ages of one and four, had been allegedly locking the children in a small black shed as punishment on more than one occasion, but stopped as soon as he threatened to report the organisation to social services.

Owner of Nahni Day Care Centre, Zaid Kasker said, “I know that this has happened on occasion and the persons involved have been fired.”

Head of communications at the Gauteng Department of Social Development, Sello Mokoena said, “This is extremely unacceptable. This definitely holds elements of child abuse and neglect. The workers at daycare centres must communicate with the parents of the child in order to figure out an appropriate way of handling the children.”

Mokoena added, “The department of Social Development will be investigating the full extent of the situation and check whether the centre is registered with social services.”

  1. What kind of punishment is this now.
Zaid Kasker don’t lie to the parents/to us, the person involved was following your instruction as the owner. Who put that small shed in your property at the first place, and why?
