Cell phone store robbed

BENMORE - The MTN store in Benmore Gardens Shopping Centre was robbed by two armed men on 18 September.

Provincial police spokesperson Colonel Khensani Mogoai said two suspects entered the cell phone shop at 12.50pm and they each pointed a firearm at the security guard and employees of the shop. They forced them into the storeroom and tied them up and took an undisclosed amount of cell phones and various other items.

Mogoai added, “We are currently investigating a case of business robbery and the two suspects are still at large and are armed.”

Operations manager for the MTN group Sean Coleman said the two men entered the story and closed the doors. They tied up the staff using cable ties and they stole stock and money from the cash register.

Coleman said the store’s staff were receiving counselling from an ER24 paramedic and the store would be closed for further investigation.

Sandton police responded to the incident.

The suspects are still at large.

This comes two weeks after provincial police outlined plans to improve security in shopping malls.
