Exam revision at the movies

SANDTON - Ster Kinekor in Sandton City was filled with excited matric pupils who attended the launch of Primestars marketing's revision programme, eduCate.

Going into its fourth year, eduCate is a maths and science revision programme offered to public schools from disadvantaged areas. The programme consists of 10 lessons which are screened to pupils at 14 cinemas all over the country. Pupils receive a revision workbook which assists them while watching the lessons on screen.

The event hosted pupils of Rhodesfield High School, Johannesburg Secondary School, Leap Science and Maths School, Minerva High School, East Bank High School, Kwabhekilanga Secondary School and Sandtonview School.

Managing director of Primestars marketing, Martin Sweet said, “The burning issue at hand is that there is a dramatic shortage of skills in the hard sciences, and if we are to transform South Africa’s business sector, we must start by educating the youth in maths and science.”

Sbusiso Kumalo, head of corporate affairs at Capitec, one of the programme’s sponsors, said, “We are very aware of the crucial role that the youth will play in our economic future and that the path to success starts with effective education and skills.

“This is why we participate in initiatives such as the eduCate revision programme, which supports our vision to improve numeracy skills to raise the throughput of learners with matric, who eventually become employed and contribute to the economy.”

Other sponsors of the programme are, BHP Billiton, Samsung and Telkom.
