Silver antiques worth R2 million stolen
ILLOVO - An Illovo resident alleges that she had silver antiques worth R2 million stolen from her home.

The resident, who does not wish to be named, believes the incident was an “inside job”.
She said, “I don’t want to throw around any theories but they knew what to take and where to get it. This was done by someone who was watching me.”
She is a widow and lives alone in a cluster development. She used to live in Hyde Park but chose to move to a more secure area. “I live in a very secure place, there is high security and we have electric fencing,” she explained.
She said she went out at 12 noon on the day of the robbery and returned at 4pm, only to find her house had been raided by robbers.
“When I came back, the whole house was stripped of silver,” she explained. “They took the finest silver I had. It escaped my mind that this could happen to me.”
The victim explained that a wax-like fluid was found on the table which she believed was used to test if the ornaments were real silver or not. “Everything they took was worth R2 million and it would be three times as much in London,” she explained.
She said her silver had monograms on, a logo to identify the silver. “The silver can’t be sold in South Africa as I can easily identify it,” she added.
“A handsome reward is on offer for the recovery or information about the whereabouts of the silver antiques.”
Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson for the Bramley police said a case of housebreaking and theft was opened at the police station.
He said, “The case is still under investigation and no arrests have been made.”
